Hello everyone im haveing a wierd problem. I just upgraded my system and i am haveing problems with the new hard drive. I recently purchased a 2.4 AMD athalon Dual core, Kingston Hyperx 2 GB ddr 400 (pc 3200), ATI Radeon x800gt (Old card), SATA Seagate 320gb and a new 600 watt power supply. Anyway when installed everything it started up great but when i went to install windows i kept getting an error to install windows xp pro disk about 75 percent through the installation. I got an error saying something about the format of the HD. Then i tried installing windows xp 64 bit addition and half way through that i was getting a black screen and it would just freeze up there. I havent tried since then im kinda just using it as a slave drive for now. I never seen this problem before and i dont know to much about the sata hd's so any input would be awesome. And another question just out of curiosity i would appreciate some input on the sata's and if its even worth it for me to mess with it. Will it even make a noticeable difference. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, JC

Please quote the error you're getting, or just search on google. There's where I'd probably start anyway ;)

As for the performance of SATA drives, they are typically slightly faster than older IDE drives. They are also easier to setup, and I beleive most can be hot-swapped. However, you probably wouldn't notice any difference between the two under normal usage, if the drives were otherwise spec'ed the same...

IDE to SATA

I just built a new system. My prob is that I have a ton of info on an old HD that I want to keep. It also has a OS on it. It is a IDE drive. My question is can I install my OS on the new HD. Can I then use a IDE to SATA converter to get to the old info? Will I have a jumper problem? Will the fact that I have 2 OSs on 2 HD cause a conflict? Sorry if these are dumb questions or if they had asked before. Thhanks for any help.
