Hi hope someone can help.

i have a desktop running two sata hd's and a few times a year i will get the dreaded blue screen and then when i re-boot windows it wont work and keeps on trying to re-boot.

so i installed xp on the secondary hd. which worked fine. but i plug in the corrupt hd and it will not access it in windows, it sees it as a drive but when plugged in simply slows down the system. i have tryed formatting in dos and windows but still no joy.

this has happened before andd i dont know the problem, its getting expensive buying new hard drives

thanks alot

What brand of HD? Is it under Warranty? Do you out the HD's through a lot of work daily, or are they just failing?

i dont use it too often, 5 times a week for a few hours i suppose. it wasnt even on the internet so shouldnt be too corrupt.

my computer seems to do this every now and then, even a new hd wont last long and i have no explanation. its a maxtor diamond max9 160gb

thanks

Did you check the Warranty? Maxtor usually has good HD's..

Have you though there might be something causing this, other than the HD..

Do you have brown outs or power outages a lot? What is your computer, and how big is the PSU?

no i dont have any power outs. my psu is 400w i changed this about a year ago because the old 350w one fryed itself. i checked the drive and its still in warrenty. but this is the replacement of the one i only sent to them 3 months ago with the same problem

thanks
