im trying to instal xp on my laptop which came with vista and the instalation tells me theres no hd detected. im fairly new with this but i rather use xp. how can i make this work. its a toshiba any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks:confused:

well you need to get the hard drive drivers from there website. IF THEY dont have drivers for xp, dont even switch because you will not get internet or anythign, if they do just get the HD drivers for now then get the rest

You need to install the sata drivers at the beginning of the install. It will say press some f button to install.

Edit: I saw you posted while I was typing (Hunt & Peck), Brian.

Brian pretty much summed it up.
Most times it's Intel Matrix storage drivers.
Like MyCattMaxx said, press f6 during windows xp setup, only applies if the laptop has a floppy drive.
Most of them nowadays does not, so you have to embed it on your XP cd using nlite.
it's fairly easy but if you're not so sure i suggest you bring it somewhere so some techs can do the install for you
