whats the difference in a sata drive/ ida drive?

Well IDE has been around a lot longer and is still used for almost all optical drives while SATA is beginning to replace IDE in HDD. SATA also transfers a bit faster but you won't notice the difference

IDE uses Parallel transfer and Sata uses Serial bus
