SATA II and Windows XP SPK-2

Ohh really thats good then. I've only built one computer, the one in my sig, that had a SATA HDD but Vista picked it up so I didn't have to istall 3rd party drivers. you see I need to do an install of SPK2 on one of those no os ready to go systems but it also doesn't have a floppy drive.
Theres very few chipsets that XP SP2 does have the generic Sata drivers for.
Did you ever update your Sata drivers after you installed windows?

By update do you mean install the drivers that came with the cd (I did that), or do you mean go out on the internet and find new drivers?
P.S. I had absolutly no problems with my SATA hdd.
How does it list your Sata optical drive in device manager or what mode its running in.

If installing the OS, not most likely. Almost all SATA chips I loaded windows on required that I load drivers from a stupid ass floppy. I've probably created, no sure, maybe 30 or 40 images over the years with XP on about 25 to 30 different builds.

Thats weird, I've never had to install SATA drivers, just RAID drivers. I've used several Intel chipsets such as the 955, P35, and even more AMD boards from socket 754 to 939, none of which required any SATA drivers. Windows XP always detected the hard drives when installing.
Its not the harddrive its the chipset
I hardly ever have to install Sata drivers when installing the OS, now were talking about XP SP2 disks. I have some older XP non SP disks that I have to install Sata drivers. But they added alot to the included SP2 disks.

Correct, on all of those machines I have installed Windows XP Home or Pro SP2 with no issues. I'm not saying that you won't need them in your case, since I know some people do need them, however I've never needed them on any of my computers.
Also to add to the list, I've used the 680i, several VIA-based boards, and several 478 boards.
Alright my bad bro. Intel® 946GZ + ICH7 chipset. Do you know if this is one recognized?
You should not have to with a 946 if you have a XP SP2 disk. If you end up having to you can just use the F6 option when installing or eaiser you can just slipstream your drivers to the CD and not have to fool with it anymore.
Good to know that I shouldn't really have any problem. Now what do you mean by slipstream them to a CD? Like burn the drivers on a cd, then push f6pop the xp disk out, install the drivers and then pop the xp disk in again?
It eaiser with a program called nLite, it copies your XP cd to a folder then you direct it to the Sata drivers that you have and it adds them to it and then it makes a bootable ISO that you burn. You wont have to do the F6 for your Sata drivers they will be on it then.

Anyway, in my experience (and well I am a mac user now for the most part) I always had to load drivers, except for maybe a very small few.
