SATA Install

My problem is quite simple really. I have a Silicon Image SATA 3112 Host Controller connected to a 500GB HD. I need to install the appropriate drivers for the controller so I can access the (very important) data on the Hard Drive.

Thing is, I've looked, it seems, all over the internet with no success of finding a simple install for this driver. All I need is something labeled "setup" that will install what I need. I can't seem to find it anywhere. (I do find some files but they are not what I need. I have also been able to find them before but now it seems they're nowhere.) The installation CD is also nowhere to be found.

So please help. Thanks in advance.

The download page for that model controller for drivers is seen at http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/Silicon_Image_SiI_3112_SATARaid_Controller/4-182245-1.html

Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller Publisher's Description

Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller: A single-chip, one-lane PCI Express to 2-port Serial ATA (SATA) II host controller.

If you have problem getting those to install try the add new hardware wizard to select the type of device and browse to the folder were the drivers are unpacked. The manufacturer's own support page for that model is seen at http://www.siliconimage.com/support/index.aspx?pid=0&cid=0&

Thanks, but those don't help. I need the specific setup.exe file that will install whatever is necessary for it to see the drive.

Those are the files I have found before but don't know what to do with them.

It has help files that can be read

1. Windows 2000/XP or Windows Server 2003 Fresh Installation

Follow the instructions in this section if you are performing a new installation of Windows 2000/XP or Windows Server 2003, and you wish to boot from a device attached to the SiI 3x12 SATALink controller.

NOTE: If installing Windows 2000, you must first edit the txtsetup.oem file on the driver installation disk and delete the line from the [Config.Si3112] section that reads:

value = Parameters\PnpInterface, "5", REG_DWORD, 1

1. Power off the system. Insert the SiI 3x12 SATALink controller into an available PCI slot. Connect serial ATA cable(s) between the SiI 3x12 controller and the serial ATA device(s). Power up the system.

2. Put your Windows Win2k/XP or Windows Server 2003 CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive, or the Win2k boot diskette #1 in the floppy drive if your system cannot boot from the CD.

3. Press F6 for third party SCSI or driver installation at the beginning of text mode installation. Press 's' when setup asks if you want to specify an additional device, and insert the diskette labeled 'Silicon Image SiI 3x12 SATALink Driver Installation Disk' then press 'Enter'. From the menu presented next, select the controller installation process that corresponds to the version of Windows being installed and press 'Enter'.

4. Press 'Enter' again when prompted to continue on with text mode setup.

5. Follow the setup instructions to select your choice for partition and file system.

6. After setup examines your disks, it will copy files from the CD to the hard drive selected above and restart the system. After restart the setup process will resume to finish the installation.

7. Once the operating system installation has completed you can follow the instructions in Verifying Controller Installation to verify controller was installed correctly.

That's nice for seeing Windows installed but not for accessing a second drive after the controller's drivers have been knocked. I assume the controller there is for seeing a sate type storage drive added onto the system lacking sata ports.
