SATA or IDE DVD burner?

but it is still prefferable to have a sata drive, like daisy said, much smaller cables and your airflow will love you for it.

with the current burn speeds as long as the ide burner has an 80 pin cable (or better) and is properly configured to udma then there's no difference in speed or burn quality.

also if you use those special compact dma cables air flow resistence between the 2 will be negligible

There may not be a speed increase for burning but there could be a speed increase for reading the disk. I have read (I dont remember where) that with my mobo, maximus formula, if you used ide it would slow the entire system down so the drive could keep up with the system, this is all with a sata hdd too though.

Also there is really no reason not to get a sata drive anymore because conversion cards are like 12$ on newegg, and you can use the drive for years to come in new builds.

SATA burners are a tad faster. A tad more bandwidth, a higher UDMA, etc. Barely noticeable, but if you have nothing else to do with $35 why not? I have one of each in my personal machine, just because.
