I have been an IDE user for years now, i wanted to shift to SATA, i want to buy a 160gb sata hdd. so i wanted to know if sata is better? faster? reliable? any comments to all you sata pimps out there.

faster, every bit as reliable, and cheaper to boot

and faster is an understatement, btw

i didn't notice the difference when i switched, but i just recently reinstalled the PATA 120gb drive into my computer for secondary storage, and it's SLOOOOW!

You'll love the change.

with that small red wire connector to the board, are there no loose connection problems? unlike in IDE where you frequently change the IDE cable for loose connection, wont that be a problem in SATA?

I haven't had a problem with SATA cables coming loose. The newer verstion on the cables/connectors has a lock on it so it can't come loose.

i have the old versions that pop in and out with 0 effort, and i've never had a problem

cables don't generally come out on their own.......

just be careful when you're digging around in the case.

SATA isn't the sort of thing I'd buy another HDD to replace my IDE drives, but when buying a new drive, I'd make sure it's SATA. When I got my first couple of SATA drivers a few months ago, I was really paranoid about the cables coming out, especially because I keep the side of my computer open. Nothing's come loose, it's a lot more secure than it looks. I don't notice any speed difference between my SATA and IDE drives, but there probably is one, just that I don't pay attention...
