SATA/SATA2 Vs. PATA

Hey guys, I know that the theoretical transfer rates are the lowest in PATA, higher in SATA and even higher in SATAII. However, what is the real difference in let's say an identical HDD with 7200RPMs, 8MB Cache and a 8.9ms seek time, yet one PATA and the other SATA or SATA2? Something is telling me that there will be very little performance difference. What do you have to prove my assumption wrong?

EDIT: Did a bit of research and SATA VS. PATA means a roughly 5% faster HDD

SO the race remains between SATA2 and PATA

well i dont have specs comparing it, but when i went from an IDE toa SATA, windows loaded alot faster, as well as other programs and transfer rates.

And in some benchmark, i know a SATAII drive won, but i dont remember which kind of test it was.

I was looking for a real world performance difference of HDDs with the same specs yet working across these three platforms. I.E.: PATA, SATA and SATAII

I would buy PATA/SATA/SATAII dependant upon the price IMO. If you can get a cheaper, but still same spec HDD for PATA $50 cheaper, then I'd go for it. However, I'd spend an extra $10 for SATA/SATAII, becuase I know it's better. I also prefer the cables for SATA/SATAII, becuase of size, etc...

Slight bit offtopic, and I'm sorry for that, but do you think SATA/SATAII will ever move onto CD/DVD drives?
