sata to ide converter

I just bought a new motherboard with 6 SATA connections and 1 IDE connection. I have four IDE drives (2 HDD, 2 Optical), so I bought a IDE to SATA converter. When I have the converter plugged in along with my IDE, the computer will hang during POST when its trying to detect the drives. When it finally starts up, the drive using the SATA converter isnt recognized. When I just use the converter on one hard drive, the computer will boot fine but when it gets to the windows loading screen it takes forever to load. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Maybe install drivers if it has any? not sure, but a lot of people have problems with them.

IMO i would just buy a PCI controller card with a couple IDE slots on them. Proabally only cost 10$ or so.

Good idea, I think I will just buy an IDE controller. Do you know if they have PCI-E x1 IDE controllers because all my pci slots are full. Also, will the card slow down reading the drive at all?
