SATA to IDE ?

The problem with newegg is that they don't ship to Canada. You can go to TigerDirect.CA or try memoryexpress for lower prices seen there. A sata drive will run at the slower rate by that method to match the ide channel when using an adapter.

Ok, but that way I wouldn't have any problems with drivers or anything since I'd be using a 5 years old board, but I would already have a SATA HDD for a future build that could come in the next year ?

Don't worry about posting links on Newegg, its very clear on there so I sometimes prefer it, after I can find my way on canadian sites.

So, a part like this would work ?

Edit: sorry fixed the link

What these adapters simply do is allow you to use a sata drive on an older board without a need for a controller card added in. On newer boards the opposite where only one ide controller is seen more often shows the trend for leaving ide drives in favor of the faster sata bus.

The adapter at the link now seen is for use when the supply lacks the sata power connectors namely on older 20pin models or low powered supplies as seen in your sig. If you are planning to add this as an extra drive you eventually will want to look into a new larger supply that includes the sata connectors. That will go into a new build there most likely where all you then need is the data cables sold for under $2 online.

I don't know why but I'm trying to see what it would imply to delay the inevitable by doing small upgrades instead of doing a new build now.

For simply running a large capacity drive you can use later in a new build I don't see any problem there. It would be have to be for use as a storage drive at this time however by the looks of the hardwares in your sig. For video and bios updates being found if you plan to install Windows on it you may run into some problems there.

The ATI card has long been discontinued. Sites like guru3D.com or Omega might have drivers still for that model card. MSI may still have the last bios version and driver updates released for the board at their support site.
