hey, i just got a new SATA hdd and was wondering what sort of performace loss i would experiance if i put it in as my priamary but kept my current IDE hdd as a secondary. The new hdd is a MAxtor 7200rpm sata and the ide hdd is seagate 7200rpm one..
Thanks

There's very little gain going to from PATA(aka IDE) to SATA when using 7200RPM drives with the same cache.

the caches arnt the same. the new sata hdd has a 16mb cache, while me ide one only has an 8. What i was really wanting to know is would i loose performace if i had some static data, such as mp3's running off my ide as a secondary, and would it longthen boot time or anything?

sata's are a little faster, and since the cache is larger, you will see an increase. very small, but it's there. there won't be any lag time in booting or anything. they are not on the same channel.

Yeah, as others have said, there's no real difference with the interface change. However, the extra cache should help a good bit.
