Satellite A55-s106 -bad lcd?

A friend gave me an A55-s106 with a possible bad screen. I hooked it up to a regular monitor and the system is fine that way .It might flicker if you move the lcd around though. My question is,could the lcd be bad or the inverter?Thanks. Oh,one more thing.I have an extra tecra 8200 screen which is smaller buthas the same hookup which i tried. It lit up but that was all.Does it have to be installed in the laptop in order to display a picture?

My guess would be a short in the cables. Can you tell if anything is showing up on the monitor? The LCD on dad's old HP has been flickering for who knows how long. Sometimes the backlight will give out and he has to open it up and press on all the connections before it'll light back up.

Maybe you'll be lucky and the inverter did just die, and they'll be some way to swap it out with the other LCD you have
