saving articles and pictures from the net for paranoid friends

overtime

Well I was having a little argument with a few paranoid friends of mine about saving articles and pictures form web sites, and I am trying to set them straight . (Ok you have to remember my friends are really paranoid they are new to the internet... but in all fairness i guss we all were in he begining).
basically we had a huge arguement about the situation below and i guss i would like to set them straight. So some one please give me a second opinion so i could show it to them

lets say there were quite a few articles and pictures you wanted from a few sites but it didn’t make sense to print them because there were just too many. If you decide to save the articles or pics simply by pressing save or copy and paste would the site know that you saved them?

their fear is that the site would know they saved the pics and by doing that have access to their personal computer (yes i konw it they are very paranoid and new)

1)i tried to explain to them that the sites would'nt have any idea that they saved or copied and pasted the articles and pics and that the option to save is almost always there when it comes topictures on the net.

2) I also tried to explain that by saving or copying and pasting articles and pics that does not allow a website any access to their computer!

can someone please back me up on these 2 points and if i am wrong can some one please tell me!

Well, if I understand this right.

Your friends are paranoid that if they save an article or some pictures, that the website will have access to their computers?

If thats the case, no they can not.

It's impossible for any website to gain access to your computer / data on your computer simply from you downloading an image / images and text from them. They also have no idea who is downloading from their website unless they have an IP monitor (which gathers information on who visits their websites etc) however through this they won't know what that IP downloaded. But almost 99% of websites have these anyway and it's not like anything is going to be done about you visiting a website. Websites are on the Internet primarily for public viewing.

So in short, there is in no way a website can gather information or access to and from your computer simply by downloading images and copy & pasting text from them. They also can't see what you are downloading from that website, only that you have visited it (which is what it is there for!).

Those sound like some pretty paranoid friends. I'd hate to see them pay for something online, it'd probably cause a nervous breakdown.

indeed this is impossible. You can't get on anyone's computer just from them downloading a picture or most things. Also if they really wanted you not to download the pictures they could write some code that would disable right mouse click so you can't save it, so it's basically all up for grabs and as RoveWolf said, they're for public viewing anyway, so it will be fine to do so.

I honestly have no idea why people have the tendency to do that. Disable right clicking on an image I mean. All you need to do to get around that is take a screenshot of the website and crop the image.

lol same, i hate these flash boxes where you cant do jack. Good ole screenshot........

Well the quality isn't the same. If they disable right clicking, it might be for a reason... They spent hours ( I know what I'm talking about) building their website/pictures, so how about respecting them?

Where did I state that I never respected them nor their work? Before you go jumping the gun and getting defensive I wasn't saying I personally screenshot images that have right click disabled, I was actually, for your information, pointing out that simply disabling right click is as useless as not having that feature enabled in the first place. I've taken pictures and created digital pictures as well as made countless websites personally (they might not be great but they were my own work none the less) so you can't act as though I have no idea where the people who want to protect their work come from. So relax with the respect lecture :).

Well you never exactly specifically directed it to anyone (no name mention nor a quote of either post you were supposably directing it at), and as I was the one who suggested the idea was stupid (right click disabling) due to how easy it is to get around it, you can see how I came to that assumption :).

My apologies for how ignorant and sarcastic my post was anyway, I was having a bad morning & afternoon, and with how you worded your thread, I got annoyed easily by it for some odd reason.
