My cozen jest got a new computer his old one was win 98 and dos not have internet access or a network card. Can I just take the hard drive from the old one and stick it in the new one as a slave or will that not work.

Hmmm

It should work but.... they may run at ATA66 or something like that. This would mean that the master HDD could run slower as a result. You can just copy the files over and then take it out. In fact that's precisely what I did.

JAN :D

it wont slow the drive down if you run that drive on an external enclosure but if you're only going to do that then no point in investing on one unless you already own one.

hopefully it is not a huge drive cuz it'll take a lone time to get things done and if it is at least a 100gb then i would put it in a cool place cuz drive copying get the hdd freakin hot.

Make sure that you change the jumper settings on your hard drives before you do.

Doesn't independent device timing take care of that? My understanding is that you can plug in any combination on an IDE cable... isn't only one device accessible at a time anyway?
