Scared newbie!!! R A Memory question

I am running low on my ram I only have 256 total with 86.7 availible. I live in a small town with no comp services I wish to install a memory update to 512. Can anyone tell where I could buy some? The best place? with instructions I am a newbie but I want to learn how to do this stuff so I am ambitiuos to learn any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks ---zen--->
