school internet

i work at a school and i am wondering if i bring in my laptop could i just hook up the internet cord and get internet. or is it more advanced than that. i just need to download some updates i have dial up and it will take forever. i have xp media center edition os. the computer is new and has the right hookup in the back.

im not sure if ur school allows this, mines does.. so u can check with the computer lab..

if ur laptop has wi-fi and ur school supports wi-fi. you should be able to get an account access to the internet from your computer labs to configure a username and password. ur laptop should detect the school's signal and allow u to connect if u have set up an account.

but then wouldnt it be less hassle to download straight onto the laptop? i mean, it would still take the same amount of time.
