School Laptop

Hi guys,
After a back operation I can't take heavy books to school, so I need a small, light-weight, entry-level laptop that does the job. ($AU200-400)

Things I'd like:

- Long battery life: Should be able to run for an absolute maximum of 5 hours in light word-processing. Realistically, 3-4 hours solely on battery.

- Size: the smaller & lighter the better, but doesn't have to be.

- Graphics: anything but on-board. I'm fine with an entry-level GT2xx or 4xx.

So basically all I'll be doing is using Word, browsing the web, maybe some multimedia...

Thank you!

I know you want discrete graphics. But with listed uses you don't need. Add that to your budget? I say netbook and even low end only because of budget.

What's the difference between a laptop & a netbook?

I'd prefer a laptop because it has an optical drive, but is there still a way to hook an optical drive to a netbook? Even externally?

Laptop generally bigger and with powerful CPU, and usually more expensive.

netbook is small and with long battery life, usually 10.1" screen with atom cpu. It cpu is weak, but would allow you to run office application or surfing web.

yep, you can get an external optical drive with it. some offers it with the netbook but some sells it separately. graphics may not be that good but good enough to handle surfing and some applications.
