Screen Help - Satellite 4090XDVD

Hello,

I just got a Satellite 4090XDVD. I can't get any thing to display on the screen. The laptop doesn't have a hard drive but, when I hook it up to an external monitor I am able to see the bios information etc. after hitting F1. I am pretty inexperienced with computers but, I think under the right instruction I can work on things or check simple things. Any advice on the best procedure to determine if what is going on with the LCD. The laptop is in prestine condition and I hear that LCD screens don't just go black when they are bad, that they usually show something. This one is completely blank.

Let me know, I would appreciate any and all advice you have to offer.

Thanks.

LCD's can do lots of things when they "go bad" It depends on HOW they go bad. If the back light gives out/shorts out, then yes, you'd still see something on the screen. However, if some internals on the LCD break, or if the LCD wires short out, you probably wouldn't see anything.

Cool. So far from what I can tell there is a little flash to the screen as it starts up but nothing major. I put it in the dark and you can see that whole screen may flash to grey for a split second but, then goes to black. Someone tells me that it is probably an lcd module, something that regulates the light to the lcd? The laptop is in great condition nearly immaculate so I am curious what it may be.
