My screen resolution does not save , it always go back to 800x600 when I change it to 1024x768 ...After restart it will revert to 800x600 again but if I changed it and restart it immediately it will still remain as 1024x768 ... it usually revert back when I shut down the com for some hrs and turn it on.

So what is the problem?

wow this one has got me stumped.. .Try updating your drivers. Or reinstall them. What is you video card? Does your monitor support that resolution?

and when that happens the icons on desktop also got arranged different from what I've arranged..
I use Nvidia Geforce MX4000 , i dled the latest driver from www.nvidia.com ver 93.71 , everything was ok before i reformat ..I was using 1024x768 all the while.

After I reformat I install the driver from the webby directly this time without having the one the disc gave me(older one) then upgrade it by dling 93.71...the previous times I've always install my graphic card using the disc given to me first then dled and driver updates from webby . So I don't know if that's the cause , but do you recommend me to uninstall this ver 93.71 update and install the disc first and dl the 93.71 update?

No, keep your current drivers. Installing From the CD first would be nothing more than a waste of time..

A quick Google search returns many Linux OS problems regarding non-sticking resolutions. You don't happen to be running Linux, or one of it's distros?

using windows xp , it is fine all the while till i reformatted my com ...maybe it is an indication that my graphic card is dying or something??

Edit:seems to be fine now : turned on my com after 3-4hrs , the only thing i've changed is from 16-bit to 32-bit for the colours in display..i hope it all goes well still

help...i turned it on the next day and it became 800x600 with the positions of my desktop icons changed again!!

It could be that the refresh rate your using for 1024x786 is not the standard one. When it boots from cold it might be keeping the refresh rate and dropping the resolution back to 800x600. Try setting it to 1024x786 and lower your refresh rate down one from what its set on and see if that works.
