Screen Shut Off

Whenever I close my Laptop lid, on a Dell inspiron (XP SP 2), my wireless card shuts off as well as my monitor. When I open the lid back up, the screen is black, and I would like for it to be showing what I was doing before I closed the lid. Under my power settings I have it set for "Do Nothing", the only option, when I close the lid of my computer. Help is appreciated. Thanks

u have to hold the power button for about 2 seconds. then it should flash up and come out of the sleep mode. when u close the lid it automticaly goes to sleep mode

go to control panel and display settings and change the settings on sleep. if that does not work then i guess you will have ur first experience with Dell's tech support.

Are you using the MS power settings? Depending on some manufacturer's and how they preinstall their softwares, some of them may come with their own power saver software. As an example, I have a toshiba and it has it's own "TOSHIBA POWER SAVER" as the software. Any attempts I do with the MS power settings get's over-written with the TOSHIBA.

So, check to see if DELL has a power saver that may be doing that also. Skim through the programs, the control panel again, and do a search on your pc if you want to also.

I just pulled out the cd's that came with my laptop, checked the programs, and what do you know, one of them had a power management program. Installed it and now I am tinkering around.

I also noticed that stand by wasn't an option for me. It should be now though. Thanks for the help guys and I'll get back to you with results.
