I use Vista. I was running a backup for an external disk drive on NovaStor when my computer slowed WAY down. I would click on IE or on Start and that little cursor circle would spin for several minutes before anything would happen. Next the background on my desktop went black, but the icons stayed intact and visible. I opened up Nova to check the status of my backup. It was running fine, but after a few minutes the entire screen went black including Nova.
The curious thing is that the computer was still running as usual. I knew this because the fan did not accelerate and the noise that was made was consistent with the Nova backup program. I used ctrl-alt-del, and the computer beeped once but nothing changed. I pressed the power button on my computer to just shut it off, and suddenly the black went away and the screen showed that Nova had in fact been running. Unfortunately after about 30 seconds the computer completed the shutoff and I lost the backup that would have occurred. What happened? What was with that black screen?
