Screen won't automatically turn off

Hi

I've googled this and can't find anything on it - both my laptop and desktop seem to have the same problem! In "power options" I have set the option for the monitor to power off automatically after 10 mins. This didn't work so I changed it to 5 mins and still no joy. Any ideas as to what's wrong? Incidentally the desktop is 4 yrs old and the laptop is 6 months old. Both running Win XP Sp2.

Many thanks

Sounds like there could possibly be a program running in the background thats constantly active so the computer never thinks its inactive. Does the screen saver ever come up it you let it sit?

thanks for the reply - I have screensaver disabled. I installed a programme on both two days ago called TuneUp Utilities 2007 (trial version) and I've enabled the memory optimizer to constantly monitor the ram. Maybe this is it. I'll try turning it off and see...

go into safe mode and see if it still does that. If it dont, then you have somthing running in the background on normal start up

Yeah, I've had a friend with this problem and it was due to the fact that he constantly had programs in the background running. More than likely, this is the case for you.
