ok so my other comp (old HP win98) is swormed with viruses and all sorts of crud...i cant even turn the comp fully on without it always saying "this comp has preformed an illegal op and must be shut down" but the thing is as soon as i close the warning bar it comes right back up...(this also means i cant post a hijack this log)...any ideas how to get it up??? it doesnt really matter cuz i have this new computer but it still was helpful to have :D
 
Boot into safe mode by pressing F8 at windows boot, and then scan. If you can't get into safe mode, try a livecd with captive ntfs.

that statement most often, and usually points to a certain program. is it listing or showing which program it is?

is it the same message for multiple different programs? or the same exact one over and over?
 
usually it says explorer preformed the illegal op but alot of times it says other stuff i dont know where came from....and also i havent been able to figure out the f8 thing, when u say during "windows boot" press f8, which part is the win boot???

nevermond i found safe mode...wait a few mnutes and ill update if something is still wrong

i noticed a program called "ad destroyer" but ive never installed it...i have a feeling it isnt destroying the ads but only makeing more...is this a clean file???
 
ok now i screwed something up worse...when i restart, the boot screen keeps saying operating system not found :confused: ughh this is annoying...how do i make the thing restart normally again???
 
Let's hope you've only deleted your MBR. Boot off your windows XP install cd and get into recovery mode (Or something like that). Then use fixmbr.

Being optimistic, to get into safe mode continuously strike F8 at boot.
