Scrub a Dub

Hello. I am fairly new to the forums and just as new to computers. I have read all the '101's' and even those are hard to understand at times. I try to sit back and look at posts pretending to myself i understand all the acronyms and computer talk, but i don't. I need a serious crashcourse on computers. Hardware, Software, and overall anything that can be usefull to me. I am interested in computers because A)it is finally something that intrigues me B)This may help with Job opportunities in the future. If there are any suggestions where i can learn from the basics to the more advanced features of the Computer, (without me having to ask millions of frivilous questions), please tell me what can be done. Ha, this feels like an extremly scrubish post but i help so anything will be much appreciated. :) Thank You

It'll be very difficult to cram everything there is to know about computers into a small space of time, I've been learning since before Windows was invented, and I've still only scratched the surface. I would say a good start would be finding a good book (perhaps one of the "... For Dummies" series, of course I'm not suggesting you are one). Also, you can greatly supplement your knowledge from the 101's with Wikipedia articles, they tend to be very good.

My advice would be rather than trying to learn about everything at once, you concentrate on one system component at a time, and learn a fair amount about it before moving on. So perhaps start with motherboards, which everything fits into in some way, and learn about the history and function of the different connections you can get - the socket numbers, AGP/PCI/PCI-E etc etc.

Software wise, most knowledge for me came from problem-solving, when something went wrong I researched the solution and in doing so I gained some supplementary knowledge. It doesn't hurt to experiment, so long as you know how to undo what you're doing.

Of course if there's something you really can't learn about, someone on this forum will definately know the answer, and would probably point you in the right direction.

thanks a bunch. Yah i don't expect to become half as good as most of the users on this forum, but i do intend to know far more then i do now. I will check out wikidpedia, see if there is a good "... for dummies book", and when it comes to computers, ha, dummy i am. Thanks Again.

You're welcome, there's plenty of different routes to take, if something's not working for you then move on, everyone has different learning styles. :)

You might try learning about different computer areas at a time, eg graphics and video or memory. And for the 101s, you could just post here about anything you don't get.

a good way to learn hardware hands-on is to buy a cheap upgrade (maybe some more RAM) and put in in yourself.I taught myself most of what I know about computers by upgrading and troubleshooting.

^^ Yah, i am planning on upgrading my computer completly, pretty much build my own when i get the funds. I will be sure to ask the studs here to see exactly the hard ware i should get. THanks Again.
