SD card slot not recognized??

Guys,

I read on google that in order to fix a multi card reader slot that is not recognizing cards when one is inserted one should:

go to control panel
go to system
go to device manager
click show hidden devices
delete all USB controller devices
delete all "something" volumes

reboot computer TWICE

and check to see if device reads.

Does this make sense? I don't want to just go deleting a bunch of stuff that I may not be able to get back??

Thanks for any advice,

Donnie

Doing that is pretty common when your computer isn't recognizing a drive. When you start your computer back up it will reinstall all of your USB drivers automatically for you. Before you do that though. I would cut your computer off, unplug it from the wall, leave it for a few minutes(press the power button a few times to discharge in left over power). When ever my card reader stops working, I do that, and it fixes it right up. If that don't work then try the other way.

Thank you for your reply.

So, if I go into device manager and delete all of that stuff I'm not actually deleting the files for the device itself? Everything listed under USB and everything listed under storage volumes?

Is there any difference between a newer SDHC memory card and a little bit older regular SD card?

I tried both methods and now I can get a standard card to read fine but my big SD HC card still just won't even read that it's put in??

Could they just not be compatible??

Here's the specs for my laptop..
Media Reader 4-in-1 Digital Media Manager
Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick, Memory Stick-Pro, and Multimedia card (MMC)

Here's the type of card:
