Which one of the two companies listed in the title has a better reputation and/or quality HDD?

I have good experiences with both of them 
I had an old compaq wth a 4gb seagate OEM in it. i slavaged that and put that into my new rig. Than i bought a built rig off a friend with a 160gb WD in it. I must say that the WD is faster, but more noiser. This is because <usually> Pre-built comps are meant to be quieter so they put loweer RPM drives in there. The WD i bought of a friend was bought Retailed so that explains for the diff.
BTW, thw wd is a caviar.

They are both very good, and the term is HDD not HD.
Yes, I missed a D because the wife was calling me. ;P
Seagate overall has the better rep. They're especially well known for their SCSI drives.
WD makes a really good Raptor and RE for enterprise. Their desktop drives are crap and they know it, that's why they dropped their warranty to one year. Rather than rework the drive they lower the warranty to reduce RMAs. They figure if they drop below a 40% RMA they're still making money and ahead of the game.
I'm not sure I'm thrilled with their RMA policy either. I have a client with three brand new 150GB Raptors. One appeared to be a bit flakey and they offered a refurbished drive as a replacement. That doesn't work for me when he only bought them a couple days ago.

Well im an owner of both drives.
My old pc had a Seagate barracuda IDE drive,It wasnt very quiet though which was annoying.
Its still running today though 5+ years since ive had it
i now have a 400GB SATA2 Western digital and i love it,Its fast,and very quiet.
the only problem is ive heard some bad things about WD....like their drives just suddenly dieying and im sorry to say they do.
My friends drive stopped last week and he opened it up to see that one of the chips on the mainboard inside the hdd

I had some poor experiences with my last couple Seagate drives. I purchased a 160GB for my current machine and it made weird noises from the get-go. Then at work (I think it was the same week) one of our new Dell's wouldn't POST or anything. Turns out as soon as I unhooked the 160GB Seagate drive (EXACT same model as mine) it started working.
Still, those two brands would probably be my top pick, with Western Digital first, Seagate 2nd, only if it's cheaper.
