Searching for New Monitor Help?

My monitor is a CRT 19in "Samsung Syncmaster 997MB"

Problem: It's cathode ray tube is going bad, which means that the screen is becoming blurry and I thought I was losing my eye sight for about a week until a buddy needed to use my PC and noticed it.

Solution: New monitor, now this is where I need help. I am extremely picky about my monitor, the reason I don't have an LCD is due to not liking them for several valid reasons.

Why I hate LCD's:

Viewing Angles - CRT monitors have a distinct advantage in this department and is probably my second biggest pet-peeve about LCD's. CRT's - The fact that phosphors emit light in all directions means that viewing angles of close to 180 degrees are possible.

Uneven Color - What I'm implying is that because of viewing angles changing the contrast of the screen, the upper half is distinctively brighter while the bottem half is darker. CRT's - Phosphors have been developed over a long period of time, to the point where they offer excellent colour saturation at the very small particle size required by high-resolution displays.

Color Clarity - I feel like things on an LCD monitor are "brighter" yet what makes it BAD is that its almost unrealistically bright, an easy example is "black being the color grey". CRT's -CRT monitors are still considered to have a better color range and are easier to calibrate for color accuracy. As such, CRT screens are still very popular in graphic arts environments where high quality color reproduction is vital.

HELP: I need a 19-21 inch, 1600x1200 resolution (resolution subject to change, just not lower) monitor and I have to make the switch to an LCD, any LCD out there that has surpassed the CRT or fixed the issues I've mentioned above, I'm not willing to adjust to something of lower picture quality just to because its lighter and pretty looking on the outside.

P.S. - I run a 1152x864 resolution, if thats any assistance.

I doubt your concerns on LCDs would still be valid. I used to hate LCDs also but they are very much improved. Viewing angles ar much better, Its hard for me to find a bad viewing angle. Although, you will notice some color change moving from one side to the other. You can turn down the brightness and I don't see any bad black. On LCD you have digital, better picture, and higher quality.

Here is a great LCD monitor for $150.

Bought an Acer Before

Hey I just recently had an acer 19in P191W. Infact I bought it no less than a week ago, and I was totally disappointed in my investment, it suffered from every possible flaw that I mentioned above...

One of the worst is the viewing angle, it says it has a viewing angle of 170H and 160V, well technically that is true but the color isn't uniform, EVER.... The color changes depending on your angle, this is disgusting for graphic design...

You offering me another acer that looks rather close to what I just bought just an inch bigger doesn't sound too reassuring...

Let alone after consulting a few local PC repair shops, 4/5 of them told me ACER was the absolute worst choice you could choose for a new monitor.

Are all LCD's still as disappointing as this "Acer 19in P191W"?
