Second monitor problem

This has happened before. I have to restart after a automatic IE update. Then my 2nd monitor is blank. I use it as an extended desktop primarily to hold my tools with Photo Shop giving me a larger working area on the primary screen. I switched Windows update back to manual, deleted the update (a security update for IE, which I don't use) and restarted without repair. I restored the system to a date last week, restarted again and no change. It seems that twice a year or so I have something kinda major do wrong. I think I would prefer to use a service where one connects to and it is fixed at the other end (hope it doesn't cost too much). Could someone recommend one? thanks

what happens when you go into the Display properties? do 2 displays show?

What happens when you press the detect button in the Display properties?

Display Settings shows both monitors. When arrow is placed om the 2nd monitor is says "Not Active". Clicking on extending desktop to it does nothing. I don't see any detect button.

Are you using the most up to date graphics card drivers for your card?

Sometimes you can use the software included with your graphics card to control the monitors display.
