SecuROM

I posted a while back that my computer 'acted up' when I installed Crysis Warhead.

Is anyone familiar with SecuROM? Apparently it's some sort of program that gaming companies throw in along with the game in order to prevent their customers from manipulating the game, or installing it more than twice. I didn't learn about this until I did a search on Amazon, to look up opinions about the game.

So, apparently this is a REALLY controversial thing, and I totally agree. I was COMPLETELY unaware that gaming companies were doing this sort of thing, and I have no idea why they should or even why they're being allowed to, despite a sue against some gaming company I read about a few weeks back.

The danger about SecuROM is that it stays in your registry, even after you uninstall the game. According to this site, SecuROM installs itself into a special area in the computer that controls the flow of program, as well as their execution.

I was really stunned when I found this out, and I was completely turned off at the thought of buying future games that potentially are infected with this. Although when I installed Crysis Warhead and my Norton antivirus "blocked" a trojan, I'm still hesitant about games like these.

Well anyway, does anyone have a way to detect this thing, as well as removing it? I'm not certain my antivirus blocked it 100%. Thanks in advance.

If it appears under the installed programs list in add or remove programs, do a Google search for Revo uninstaller and uninstall it via Revo using the most advanced method. After running the program uninstaller it searches for leftover files and registry keys to delete, make sure you delete them all.

It doesn't show up in installed programs. Does that mean my computers safe? :D
