see any problems with this?

no card

I don't have a current card because the new computer was just built......got to save up some good money because I am going to go for a card in the $300 dollar range.....just want to buy a cheap card that will work that will allow me to get on the internet at home and do some typing programs! :)

Well...

The FX range has its weakest member, the 5200. It's a card for office computers or for users that do not intend to use it for games or anything like that. The 256MB of ram is a total waste in this case and you would not do bad if you got the 128 meg. Well I understand that you are on a budget (and so am I). Therefore I would go with it as long as you do not expect to game seriosuly with it. You will be disappointed in that case. Otherwise a good super budget card.

JAN :D

I'd probably get a Radeon 9600 Pro. But what exactly are you going to be using it for? I've used an old Geforce MX4000 and have a Radeon 9200 in one of my computers right now and they work fine as long as you don't play any games (new ones at least). Then you could save money and buy a good card sooner. But if you want to play games right away (for $100) I'd get the 9600 Pro or 9600 XT which is a little over $100 (note: I am a bit partial to ATI cards :p).

I stand by my original statement: get an MX4000 or Radeon 9200 for short term nongaming and saving money for a good card; or get a 9600Pro for some moderate gaming while spending a bit more and waiting longer to get a good card

Goto a junk sale and grab one for $1. I just bought two today (Cromewell you really need to goto these sales sometime)

If you had $100 dollars for a video card what would you go with
A $1 video card + $99 in the bank (seriously)

I managed to play doom 3 with no jerkiness and at a resnoble frame rate @1280 by 1024 with high detal.
I challenger either the 9600Pro or the definition of 'resnoble rate' ;)

Hah

Thanks for the assistance gentleman........I guess for normal computer rather than games there really is no need for any more than a 128 right as opposed to 256 and so on.............Is the biggest thing I need to look at when I go to get my real expensive one the resolution and hertz ratings?
