Seemless Swap to SSD?

Down the road I will be overhauling my system with a new case, new MB, new i5 CPU, and new RAM.

Right now my system works fine and while it is aging it is still meeting my requirements. But for how long?

I'm wanting to switch from my (3) HD drives to (3) SS drives now, to lower costs when I complete the rest of the build.

Drive 1: 35 Gb 7200 RPM O/S Drive (Boot and programs only.)
Drive 2: 250 Gb 5500 RPM Storage Drive
Drive 3: 250 Gb 5500 RPM Storage Drive

I know I can easily copy the contents from a HDD to a SSD in the case of the storage drives so that really isn't as issue...but what about my boot drive? Is there a way I can literally copy the boot drive exactly to a SSD so I can plug it in replacing the HDD without causing a problem?

I have many years of programs and keys and drivers that I fear would be too hard to replace. It would be easier to mirror the drive, and plug it in.

Possible?

It will be better to reinstall windows on the SSD. Just copying your HDD over will not allow TRIM support, thus not getting full features from the SSD.

Also, It is better to keep the 2 250GB drives for data. SSDs are expensive in the $ per GB, and generally people only have the budget for a boot drive SSD.

Is there then, an easy way to transport programs, drivers, keys, and such...so all won't be lost? I know I can probably find and install a lot of the programs I use but I know I'll lose a lot that I just can't get back without buying again.

If I can somehow transfer the programs in bulk, installing fresh on the SSD would not be a problem.

Clone the boot disk to SSD to see how it perform. It you satisfy then keep it that way until you build the new system then do a clean installation on the SSD.
Cheers.

Agree that cloning from hdd to ssd isn't a good idea. If all doesn't go well, then you start your new drive off by having to run it through a cleaing process right off the bat.
But if you must, you will have to align it, set up for achi mode, and Windows 7 native ssd tweaks, manually.
