Alright everyone?

Can someone please explain to me about the Sempron series of processors?

Im confused.

Why is it that apparently the Sempron 2800+ i have is 2Ghz and the 3000+ sempron located here is only 1.8Ghz?...

Is the one on the link dual core?If so why is it slower?

Im realy confused:D

Also i though the sempron processor couldnt be overclocked?Ive seen somewhere my processor overclocked to over 2Ghz?

Thanks

The one in the link you posted is a Socket A CPU. I'm not sure what socket you have but that is probally the answer for your question. And, no, it is not dual core. Also, Sempron's can be overclocked.

Hi,

Mine is a socket A also,But what i dont understand is why mines 2Ghz and that socket A sempron on the link is only 1.8Ghz?

Some semprons have a higher model number because they have twice the L2 cache (256K vs 128K).

i have the sempron 3000+ at 1.8 ghz over clocked to 2.25 ghz, barely any temp increase. Also mine is a 64 bit skt 754

The sempron 2800+ probably has 128K of L2 cache while the sempron 3000+ has 256K.

yes they are the entry level processors. they are not bad though, i personally prefer them to celerons

yeah cos im building a barebones pc for my mum (£300 budget) and am opting for the semperon rather than the celeron.

Is there a 64 bit version of the semperon?

don't quote me on this but i believe that they never made a socket A sempron 64, so you'll have to get a socket 754. I'm not sure if all of the socket 754s were 64 bit or not.

I've had a lot more luck playing games on them than any celeron. Especially since you can over clock them. Besides with intel they have so many different names and types of processors you never know what your're getting. AMD has 3: Budget (Sempron) Performance (Athalon) Server (Opteron)

Actully 4 main ones you'll still see being used today:

Duron
Sempron
Athlon
Opteron

well you could also get really technical and say that there is the athalon xp, athalon 64, sempron, sempron 64. But the duron is a socket a which is really out dated which is why i didn't list it although it's what i had before i built this cmputer. Anyway the point is they have fewer different lines of processors so it's less confusing.
