Semrpon CPU's and Thermal Paste....

Ok, simple question, needing a simple answer... I have a Sempron 2500+ and of course it does not have the metal backing that the Athlon 64 series chips do (I assume it is for heat dissapation) however there are 4 metal disk that reside on each of the corners of the prosessor. Is this where I put the thermal paste on? Or does this chip not get thermal paste? Help!

all the thermal paste does is help transfer the heat from the cpu to the heat sink. in other words go ahead and use it it will proby will not hurt it. (if im wrong speak up. nobody is perfict.)

Thats what Im worried about is hurting it somehow, someway. Its not my PC Im building. Thank you for your input!

semprons don't have the heat spreader, but the heat comes from the little rectangle die in the middle. Just put the thermal compound on the cpu die

Lol

Ahmmm...man I don't wanna be rude, but the second post kinda confuses people. The only place where you should ever need to apply thermal paste is as has been noted above, on the little rectangle in the middle. Apply approximately 0.5 mm of paste on the CPU Core (the rectangle). What I also do is to apply it to the HSF (heatsink fan) and then using a plastic bag or something, rub it in.... Then I wipe it off clean from teh HSF. There you have filled some microscopic holes. Then carefully place the HSF on the CPU and click in. Good luck man....and wait for some decent suggestions before you do anything. ;)

You can do that? And there is like 1/8 inch space from that 'die' to the heatsink...Thats a lot of space for thermal compound ehh? Can anyone else support this?

Ok

Well you place it here :

Right in the middle of the processor, that litlle rectangle is the only place where you apply the heat compound.

yes you only put a little bit on that center bit, the tension on the hsf will eliminate that gap

Are you sure they are metal??

You put the thermal paste on the chip

semprons don't have the heat spreader
The 3100+ does :P (well it should dammit)
