serial code check?

bought my labby at a bus stop. I called the police department with the serial # but they couldn't run it. I don't know the real history of the thing. are they goin to run it if i take in for repairs? where can i get check without risk of it being taken, or where can i check the serial #?

what a hassel, though i did only pay 75$ for the thing.
 
Ther serial number isnt recorded on some central database like a car's registration plate, otherwise if 2 manufacturers put the same serial number on then there'd be 2 records for the same number.
 
well did you get the guys name and stuff, if so if he did not wipe the os, look for any file that ties him to the computer. oh also call MS. if the first guy who got it registerd, ms should have a record of it.... maybe
 
For $75 you're questioning it? Dude, the thing burned a hole in your lap, it's so hot. What are you hoping for? Someone to lessen the guilt? Look on the bright side. It's so hot you can make pancakes on it. Live with it. ;)
