Serious Freezing & Turning Off Problems! HELP!

The computer constantly freezes and I often wake up in the morning with the computer completly off.
I have been trying to research what it could be and this is what Ive tried.

I have reinstalled windows. Did nothing to solve these problems.

I checked the BIOS for an idle switch off option. Couldnt find one.

I had a device (audio) problem which I uninstalled. I thought it couldve been a driver problem. Didn't solve anything...

I checked the voltage. All seems around what it should be. I have an Omni 400W.

I've opened up the case to assist in cooling. Did nothing.

I checked fans. CPU and power supply fans are working.

Ive downloaded Speedfan. I dont know what temp1,2,3 and HD0 are excatly but the HD0 is at a constant 53 with a flame. With temp 1,2,3 all staying roughly under 50. Only temp 2 is under 30.
Also it says that fan 2,3 are 0RPM. Im not sure what they would be. But like I said I have checked and the 2 fans I know of are working.

Just today its got 1000X more serious. I can barely use the computer at all now with out it crashing or freezing! Please any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
 
my guess is a motherboard or processor problem. What kind of processor do you have? 50's is acceptable (still not great) for P4's but it's pretty high for most everything else. Has your computer been fine for awhile and then it just started this or has it been a problem since you got it? If you built it yourself, I would suggest trying to reseat the heatsink cause it sounds like either a heat issue or a motherboard going bad, suppose it could be a dying processor but I don't think that's as likely. But more info would help out.

It was put together but not by me. This has been a problem -not since the begining- but for a while, but it wasnt very severe.
Would a system fan help? I am thinking of getting one today.
What do you mean by something wrong with the mother board?

By processor do you mean CPU? if so its an intel celeron 1700mhz 17x100.
the mother board is a Gigabyte GA-8ST667.
How should I go about realigning the heat sink?
 
I'd let a friend who knows what they are doing reset your heatsink, but first check the bios temps to make sure that heat is a problem. I had my motherboard go bad like 2 months ago, I think it was heat that caused it. I had similar problems when mine went bad. A computer store could test both your processor and mobo but it might be costly. You might want to wait for a second opinion, but my guess is still likely the motherboard. 53 is really hot, especially for a 1.7 celeron, so I'm sure that's playing a part as well
 
53* C is pretty hot, but it shouldnt be damaging the CPU yet. Put memtest86+ on a bootable floppy and run through it a couple of times to see if you get errors.
 
Ive got a system fan now which is keeping it cool. But even with the fan it has taken me about 10 attempts now just to write this msg! Im figuring something has busted probably due to heat like you said. How can I find out what it is?

i have tha same problem everything on my comp works but the blue screen shows up saying stop 0x00000065 (memory1_initalization_failed)is it due to my processor:confused:
 
When you go and re-place your heatsink re-apply the thermal paste. My computer when I first had it had the exact same problem where after 5 minutes of idling it would completely freeze up and when I went to shut it down the computer would still stay on. Eventually these errors stopped, but I still never could find what could have been the matter. Try buying a new heatsink. Real big too :D.
 
couldnt get memtest to work. The heat sink gets really hot so im pretty sure that is working. I think ill just get wats good out of this computer and make a new one. :D I think with the amount of decent stuff i already have i could save myself alot of cash making a good new one.
