Please help guys if you know of any solution, my external drive stopped showing up, the computers read it and install drivers but there is no drive letter, I tried running spinrite on it but it seems as though it can only read the internal drives. Anything else I can do. I'm using vista ultimate, and I can not figure out a way to get the volume to be read. Disk manager doesn't even show a drive letter for it. Is there anything I can do?

Is it sata, and did you just plug it in? If this is a new drive, you may have to install thesata drivers. (if this is your first sata HD).

Yes chceck if you have drivers for it installed and are fully compatible with Win Vista Ultimate...

Sedond step, try pluging the drive into different computer e.g. (running different OS) if you have the opporutnity

When you say it "stopped" showing up do you mean to imply that it's worked before? Or has it never worked on this machine?

Yea, It's worked fine in the past. I really need the data on the drive. Inside it's a 2.5 internal IDE, so I can't remove it and connect it internally. It's not a driver issue, as windows, leopard and linux aren't mapping the drive. I tried to physically mount the volume but no luck. I'm really frustrated at this point, my entire semester of school work is on there, and I have no other means of retrieving the data to study for finals.
