Serious Laptop Question/Problem

A few weeks back I upgraded my laptop to Windows Vista using the upgrade disc. I have had it for the trial period and have decided I do not want to keep the upgrade. Well upon loading up my computer, I am given a message that my computer is given limited functionality until I purchase a Key for Windows Vista. So all I am able to do is use the internet to purchase a key.
Well I do not want Vista, and want to reverse back to XP. Does anyone know how I could go about doing that? I am at my wits end on doing it and no one seems to want to help me. So I am hoping someone here can help. I have tried puting in the recovery disc which came with my laptop but it hasn't worked yet. Ugh..help please!

If you don't have an actual xp install disk and your laptop recovery disks don't work there's not a lot that can be done. You might have to purcahse XP or Vista. Why don't your recovery disks work?

curious

I was wondering if you received the disc free from an upgrade site (moduslink) if so then I might regret if as well and what brand of laptop do u have?
