Serious Upgrade Problem

Ok, this is what happened. I was changing the cd rom drive for my friend's computer. Easy enough. I had some extra memory lying around, so i decided ide give his comp a boost while I am at it. Did that, and the next day he tells me the comp is running slower than before, I didn't touch anything in the computer, all I did was add the memory. So he just wants me to remove it, and I do. Then he says the comp is running even slower. I just have never heard of such a situation before, and was wondering if I could get some advice on this problem. thanks,

1. Put the memory back in (assuming it works) unless you tried putting something like a PC1600 into a system with PC3200 ... i'll tell you right now that your friend wont be able to tell jack difference even the RAM is downclocking due to maxed banks

2. Sounds like the IDEadjustment messed up the DMA mode? Goto the Device manager and make sure all the devices are operating in DMA mode.
