Server 2000 SMTP

I have an MS Server 2000 server up and running. I want to be able to send emails via SMTP (for my yabb forum), and am struggling.

The server is setup as a workgroup server, not a domain server.

The server is on a fixed IP.

I have a domain name (subdomain actually) with the A record pointing to the server.

I have played with the DNS on the server, not sure if I need to.

Yabb doesn't show an error.

Server logs don't appear to show an error.

Any tips on setting this up?
 
I have managed to get outlook to use the 192.168.0.100 'smtp' server, and outlook 'sends' the message reporting no errors. The email goes nowhere however.
