server execution failed + more

Just got a new comp and have finished installing win 7 home premium + all the videocard, sound drivers etc and decided to run the stock video footage on windows media player. After clicking on the video I got the loading mouse wheel for a minute and then the error message "server execution failed". In addition I am unable to open windows media player at all. When I click the icon the loading wheel spins for a second but nothing loads. Annoyed at this I installed win amp. It installed fine but also,will not open.


I also cannot click on anything in the control panel area "hardware and sound".

Please advise, thank you very much in advance for any and all help

Format and reinstall windows again to see if you still have the same issues. Your installation may have become corrupt some how.

Considering that I have the OEM version OF windows will I be able to do this?

Ok, so how exactly do I go about formatting and re installing windows?

Boot to the install cd, delete the existing partitions, repartition then format and then install.

I formatted the computer as you suggested, clicked on media player and it opened fine. Then I installed the videocard drivers and reset, opened media player and control panel everything worked fine. Then I installed the drivers for the soundcard and reset the computer. Now media player won't open, I get the server execution failed message.etc.
