server question

hello all,

some some questions about game servers. do people just host games off of their computer or a seperate computer or do they have a server set up specifically for it.
been interested in learning how to do this just for my own benefit/knowledge. was interested in setting up a team fortress server or something similer. i know this post is pretty generic but i really dont know much about the topic.
if anyone has any links to send me to to read up on it i would appreciate it.

Yes you can do it on your machine. Those games has it's own program to run it as a server.

I've ran a couple Game servers before and you dont have to have a server to run it on but it would be a good idea. Especially if it gets real big. but yes you can run it on any type of computer

unless you have a very fast internet connection forget about it. Fast as in upload and download.
