Server Rack Power Requirements?

Hello all,

I am planning to build a mini Data Center in my house. Two Racks about 6 Ft tall full of equipment. I need to know how much Amps they will draw. I plan to build two new circuits. Does anyone have an appx on the Amps that they will draw?

Thanks,
West

Please post specifications.

Are you in the USA with 110V? Are you planning on using 15A circuit? If so, it will be fine.

Two six-foot tall racks full?
That could be anything, depending on how tall each server is. Even the smallest 1U server I found online has a 200W PSU. A 42U six-foot tall rack will hold... 42 1U units. 42x200W=8400W= 70A max @ 120VAC
Even derating for 150W each means 42x150=6300W=52A @ 120VAC
For ONE rack you'd need at least THREE 20A 120VAC circuits, probably FOUR for safety. And you want TWO racks full.

I think you need to talk to a licensed electrician, seriously.

This is one of those times when I am glad I have 240V instead of 110V. :D

But like OkeDokey said...it really depends on the specifications.
