Server setup advise

I'm finally getting another computer up and running. I will be converting my currently used computer in to a server of sorts. Well, it's going to be more of a file server than anything. I plan to use it for storing my music, photos, and videos on my network.

N-E-Way, I was thinking of running XP pro and using remote desktop to manage it. But what I needed to know is whether there were better options for OS or management. I don't have a KVM switch, nor do I plan on getting one. BTW, I plan on running Vista on the computer I will be using daily.

well don't bother trying Linux because vista and linux do not network well.

I would just slap a few large hard drives in your old PC and share the whole volume to your network.

Yeah, I have 3 60GB drives laying around, and I know they're not VERY big, they are already in my house. So XP pro should be fine?

server 2003 will do for you server keeping in mind probably you want better security right ?

Are you serious? You know how much a user license cost for win2k3 server costs? This is a file server, nothing more nothing less. XP Pro will do fine.
