Server?

I am not sure if this is even a good idea or not but here is my question. (My specs are in my signature)

I play pretty heavily modded packs so my frame rate suffers once I have a ton of stuff. Would making a home server benefit me at all? I have an "older" PC that I could make into a server. (12 gig ram 3.0 Ghz Processor) I know for Minecraft I would have to get a better processor/motherboard since I need I believe 3.2 min to run Minecraft.

On vanilla I have seen over 800FPS, and when i start a new world,.
Once I am DEEP into the game, I often see drops down as low as 40 and it just starts to get too choppy then.

I take it this is for single player?

Perhaps your settings are too high in your game's? Sometimes you have to make a compromise and make due with what you have. That's why there are settings to adjust to what makes the game playable and enjoyable at the same time based on the hardware you have.

I used to play COD Modern Warfare on a Pentium 4 @ 3.0GHZ. It worked, but I couldn't use the highest settings and some mods were so complex my frame rates were like 12 if that.

You can give it a shot but I don't think it would make a difference. All of the mod stuff has to be computed and displayed client side, you'd really only be offloading world generation which isn't that substantial.

Yea, its single player. I have dialed back about as much as I can. I think its just so much stuff to compute is all (like beers said). I mean, Vanilla with no mods I get over 800 FPS so I guess I should have known its just because of how much is going on.
