My brother and I are looking into a making websites and running a small home business through the interent, and I'm just wondering, would it be necessary to have a server for it? What would it's use be as such? What parts would it need? I told him it would be a lot more efficient and he isn't so sure. Also, would it need a server processor like a Xeon or an Opteron, or would a normal desktop process (Pentium D) do the job?
 
Ummm.. most of the itnernet hosting sites use their own servers... so if yuo want to make a site off of them, then probably ya cant use your server
 
If you wanna open a hosting company, you should buy your own server boxes, then co locate them for $100/mo or so.
