Setting up a Home Server

Hello I searched around but I couldn't exactly find something that would help me. I have an old computer that I would like to set up as a file server to save files from all 3 computers I have. I would also like to maybe hook a printer up so I could print off any of the 3 computers to the one printer. I would use Linux to set it up. I was just wondering how I would go about doing it. I found one step by step article but it was older and I think it was talking about setting up a web server. I only want the three computers in my house to be able to access it and I don't want it on the web. Thanks for any help in advance.

install this on your server http://www.wftpserver.com/ and then once that is properly set up go on your computer you want to connect to the server and go on your web browser and type in ftp://[you servers ip] if you get stuck please put up another post about it. i know this isn't to detailed so you may need more help.
