Setting up a LAN password

heres the crack, i have two PCs and 3 laptops connected to my LAN. The PCs are connected to the router with wires and the laptops are wireless. As there are now more people being able to hack into your networks and look at sites your on etc id like to be safe and make sure no one can use my internet connection without me knowing therefore i know a password can be set but i don't know how this is done. Can anyone help??

Log into your wireless router and go to the security tab, you then should be able to set different kinds of securities.

most wireless routers can be accessed by a computer using the internet through it by typing 192.168.1.1 in an URL address space in an internet explorer window. You can access the configuration menu using that option. THen once in, you have a range of security options to choose from.
You can chooe the type of encryption to use, whether its WEP, WPA, WPA2 depending on what your router can handle.
You can choose to not broadcast your SSID. in which case, your current computers will work, but to add another computer you would have to know the SSID becuase it will not come up automatically when you look fro available SSIDS inthe area unless you have proper equipment and know what you are doing
You can place MAC filterting effect on, and just apply the MAC's that you want to use. you can get the MAC's for all your computers by typing ipconfig /all on each of the computers from the run: cmd menu.
