Setting up a USB wireless Adapter

Could someone please tell me how to set up my Netgear USB wireless adapter.
The situation is, I have a laptop (windows 7) working by wireless through my Netgear router to the internet OK.
I had an old desktop PC working through the USB wireless adapter through the router to the internet OK.
This PC has died, so I have replaced with another PC running Windows XP.
I have tried the XP wizards but nothing seems to set up the USB adapter

I have a CD for the Netgear Router but it did not seem relevant when I tried it, I did not want to upset my existing router settings, the menu was suggesting this. I thought windows would contain drivers.

XP won't have any wireless drivers built in. What is the exact model of wireless adapter you have?

Thanks johnb35.
I downloaded it to my laptop with the intentions of putting it on my flash drive to transfer to my desktop PC as obviously it has no internet connection. But I was not given this option, it wanted to install on my laptop which I refused, I do not know where the download went to, to copy.
update; Got it , I had an extra step to go to save it, and it went to my download folder. I will try and run it on the Desktop
