whats up people, I have XP on my main computer, but just got a laptop that has vista, I would like to set up the network so I can access files from my ext HDD on the laptop without having to plug it directly into the laptop, I have the wireless internet up already, and I set the folder from the HDD that I want to share to sharring, but when I go into vista and check out network places it only shows my back up computer's printer. Any suggestions?

Make sure you shared the folders or drives you want to access, Get the IP address of the machine that has the shared stuff (Start - Run - CMD"Ipconfig")
Then on the other computer do this (Start - Run - \\192.168.1.12 (or whatever the IP is))
Hopefully you should see everything.

thanks alot, I just did everything you said and it worked with no problems, after that I just "right clicked" then clicked "map network drive"
